Brown Sauce - Rosie's special recipe!

Make this lovely sauce and breakfast will never be the same again

Ingredients

Apples, Cooking
2lb
1 kg
Onions (medium),
Peeled and chopped
1lb
450 g
Dates,
Chopped
2lb
1 kg
600 oz
1pint
Ginger, ground
1 tsp
Mustard,
dry powder
1 tsp
Cayenne Pepper
1 half tsp
Muscavado Sugar
8 oz

Enter the quantity of one or more of the ingredients that you have and Rosie will adjust the quantities to match.

Method

  1. Cook onions in a little water until soft
  2. Add peeled and chopped apples, dates, spices and vinegar. Cook over a low heat until very soft
  3. Add sugar and a little more vinegar if needed, but the mixture needs to become quite thick
  4. Either process the sauce in a goblet liquidiser, or push through a sieve
  5. Return to the pan and reheat gently
  6. Bottle and seal while hot
  7. Don’t eat breakfast without it!
